Nursery Admissions
Parents of children born between 01/09/2021 and 31/08/2022 can apply directly to the school, using the school’s application form, from 1st November 2024.
A paper application form is available from our school office or can be downloaded through the link below or from our Nursery/Nursery Admissions page. When the form is completed you can submit it by hand to our school office, by post to Giles Nursery and Infants’ School, Durham Road, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 4JQ, or by email to nurseryadmissions@gilesinfants.herts.sch.uk.
Summer Born Children – deferral of Reception places
Parents of summer born children due to apply for Reception the following September, may under certain circumstances be eligible to apply for their child to stay in Nursery for a second academic year (i.e., until the term in which the child turns five). For summer-born children, this would mean one further full year in Nursery. Deferring entry into school has a significant effect on the child’s school career and requires thorough consideration and may only take place after discussion and formal approval in writing in advance by the Headteacher.
Parents of summer-born children (those whose birthdays fall between 1st April and 31st August) considering this option must arrange a meeting with the Headteacher to discuss the possibility. This option will only be open until the end of the spring term (i.e., prior to the Easter break) so if it is being considered, please contact Mrs Mendel well in advance of this.
Reception Admission Arrangements
Please see our Reception tour video for parents of children who would like to join us in September 2024.
The LEA will invite you to apply for your child's reception place. Admission information can be found on the Hertfordshire County Council admissions webpage. Here, you can access information and timescales relating to applications and closing dates.
The Admissions Team will email you when places have been allocated. You will then be able to go back online to see which school has been allocated to your child. If there are more applicants than places the County Admissions Team will apply a series of admission criteria. These rules have varied during the past few years but current rules are available on the Hertfordshire County Council admission rules webpage.
Children are admitted to the main school in September. Many of the children in our Reception classes come from our Nursery, although having a place at our Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception year.
New to the area/ In year admissions
If you are new to the area or would like to apply for a place at our school via the 'In Year' admission process, applications should be made directly to Hertfordshire County Council on their website.
Primary / Junior school admission arrangements 2025-26
During the autumn term, parents/carers of children in Year 2 will be invited by the Local Authority to apply for a place in Year 3. Further details about the primary/junior school admission process and how to apply is available on the Hertfordshire County Council webpage.
Many of our Year 2 children apply for a place at The Giles Junior School.
